Scoliosis (Curved Spine)

Surgery may rescue patients from the psychology of disability, and may be life-saving in very advanced curvatures when other required and indicated treatments fail.

The most frequently encountered type is known to be genetically triggered. So nothing that the patient does or does not in childhood or later in life (falling, carrying bags, sports, etc.) is considered a factor in the development of scoliosis. Although specialists think that the development of scoliosis is affected by some factors, this view is not yet scientifically proven.

The first symptoms realized by the patient or the family are generally related to spinal twisting; a local hump appears, not right on the spine but actually at its side (generally on the right for the back, and left for the waist). As the hump is more prominent when the patient bends over, its diagnosis is easier and earlier in that position.
