Pathology

Acıbadem Healthcare Group’s Pathology Laboratory consists of macroscopy, routine histology, cytology, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry and physician study units. Additionally, pathology units are present in all hospitals, which work in cooperation with the central laboratory.

Diagnosis and Treatment Services of Pathology Department

Tissue and cell samples that will be subject to histopathologic examination can also be assessed with assistive methods such as histo(cyto)chemistry, immunohisto(cyto)chemistry, immunoflorescence or FISH, when required, in addition to routine techniques.

Our pathology department cooperates with genetics laboratory to access other pathologic techniques, such as PCR or cytogenetics.

Telepathology System

“Telepathology system” links all units of the hospitals to the Central Pathology Laboratory. This system enables consultation of microscopic or macroscopic tests analyzed in central laboratory or laboratories of Acıbadem Hospitals with the physician who works at the terminal unit.

Quality Control

Tests analyzed in various units of the laboratory are checked by technicians and the supervising physician with reference to standard controls per test or group of tests depending on the feature of examination. If the result of positive and/or negative standard deviates, test is repeated until the result is within the expected range.

Capacity

Central Pathology Laboratory is designed to analyze approximately 50.000 biopsy samples and approximately 60.000 cytology materials on a monthly basis. Other than the samples sent by Acıbadem Healthcare Group’s hospitals and outpatient clinics, the Central Pathology Laboratory accepts samples from third party hospitals, outpatient clinics and physician offices.
