What is Tomotherapy HDA?

Tomotherapy HAD is a tomotherapy device with active CT image guidance that can be used for all radiotherapy procedures. Tomotherapy HAD can be used for treatment. Its intended use covers a very wide range of radiotherapy, such as head and neck cancers, mesothelioma, prostate cancer, medulloblastoma and bone marrow transplantation.
The treatment volume and the dose are planned by the device on daily basis. It has up-to-date technology that enables high-resolution 3D CT imaging to facilitate the planning.

Tomotherapy

Size, location and shape of the tumor can change instantly in moving organs. Tomotherapy HAD sculpts the best treatment plan according to instantly changing volume of tissues and organs, such as prostate, pancreas and urinary bladder. The radiation bundle is divided to small bundles that vary in density to deliver sectional intensity modulated radiotherapy. Based on sectional intensity modulation, Tomotherapy HAD enables protection of critical tissues and organs located at the target volume of the radiotherapy. It adapts to the shape and size changes in moving organs. Since it can deliver the radiation to the target volume, the dose exposed by health tissues is minimized. Moreover, Tomotherapy HAD adjust the dose distribution according to large, long and adjacent volumes.

Who are good candidates of Tomotherapy?

Tomotherapy HAD is an appropriate device for all radiotherapy procedures. Common intended uses are as follows:

  • Lung cancer
  • Tumors in moving organs
  • Prostate cancer
  • Head and neck tumors
  • Lymphatic tumors
  • Total body tumors
  • Bone marrow cancer
  • Craniospinal radiation (for tumors located in the central nervous system)

How long does a treatment take in Tomotherapy?

Tomotherapy HAD is an appropriate modality for recurrent tumors and for patients who had already received radiotherapy. It is an up-to-date option that can be used in all age ranges. It protects the scalp at the treatment volume.

Having features of artificial intelligence and real-time motion synchronization, Tomotherapy HAD shortens both planning and treatment phases. Each treatment takes 15 minutes on average in Tomotherapy HAD. Dynamic and real-time tumor tracking is created in order not to limit movements of the patient during the treatment. The device is designed to meet all physical needs of patients thanks to movable patient bed and continuous 360-degree imaging technology.
