Chronic pelvic pain is one of the most common medical problems in women. It is defined as pain located between the belly button and the pelvis and lasts longer than 6 months.

It may cause physical, mental and psychological damage. Twenty five percent of women suffering from chronic pelvic pain have difficulty in maintaining their social life for at least 2-3 days of each month.

Pain is felt during sexual intercourse in 90% of cases. Chronic pelvic pain is characterized by pelvic pain lasting 6 months of longer, lack of response to usual treatments or minimal alleviation and continuous decrease in physical activity.

There may be many underlying causes of chronic pelvic pain. If chronic pelvic pain is secondary to a documented health problem, pain killers will not be required, as the pain will completely disappear when the underlying problem is eliminated.
